Teste de Nacionalidade

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about the test and the platform. This page is updated with every official publication.

I'm Brazilian. Do I really have to take the test?

Yes, for the knowledge component (culture, history, symbols, rights, the State). The CPLP waiver covers the language only. Full explanation, with the law's article, in our guide on Brazilians and the test.

I filed my application before 19 May 2026. What now?

Good news: your case follows the old rules — no test, and the 5-year residence period (article 7(2)). What counts is the submission date.

Who is exempt from the test?

The law waives the requirement outright exactly once: for people who have rendered or are called to render relevant services to the Portuguese State (Article 6(9)), and it is a Government discretion, not a right. What gets mistaken for an exemption is something else: marriage, civil partnership, adoption and children of Portuguese citizens enter by routes that never go through Article 6 at all, so the test never applied. Minors are not a blanket exception — for some stateless minors the law does apply points c) and d). As things stand there is no exemption for age, illness or illiteracy. One caveat: the Nationality Regulation does provide adaptations of the language test for people aged 60 or over who cannot read or write (and for people with serious illness or certified disability), and none of it has yet been extended to the new knowledge test — the regulation that could do so is still unpublished. Whether the Government will is unknown. We update this answer the day it comes out.

Guide: who is exempt from the test — and what is still undecided

How much does the platform cost?

The 20-question mock is free, no signup. Full access is a one-time payment, with no subscription and no automatic renewal: €19 for 1 month, €29 for 3 months, or €39 lifetime with no cut-off date. All three include the same content.

What if I don't like it?

Try it first: the 20-question mock is free and needs no signup, and it shows exactly the kind of question and explanation you will get. On purchase, access opens the moment you pay — and for that the law asks you to expressly request immediate performance, which ends the 14-day right of withdrawal (that is the rule for digital content). If something actually goes wrong — a duplicate charge, access that never opened, a failure on our side — write to ola@testenacionalidade.com and we will sort it out.

Are updates included?

Yes. When the official exam format is published, we adjust the question bank and email you the same day. Updates are included while your access is active; on the Lifetime plan, forever.

Does the official test exist yet?

Not yet. Organic Law 1/2026 created the requirement (in force since 19 May 2026), but the regulation defining format, fee and administering body is still unpublished: its legal deadline was 16 August 2026 and it went by without it. The statute attaches no consequence to missing it, so there is no new date. When it lands, we update all content the same day.

Are your questions the official ones?

No — and be wary of anyone claiming otherwise: no official questions have been published. Our 477 questions are original, built on the law's 5 themes and fact-checked one by one. Buyers get the update to the official syllabus at no cost.

What language is the content in?

Questions exist in Portuguese and English — switch anytime. The official exam will be in Portuguese, so we recommend training in Portuguese in the final stretch.
